And a bit more sale shopping

We had kind of agreed that anything bought would be on a need rather than want basis, so it was slightly embarrassing when large boxes were delivered today and my husband had to sign for them!  Mostly it was half price wrapping paper etc for next Christmas.  We also needed some new bed linen and I couldn't resist the reduction on this gorgeous Cath Kidston duvet cover

But did we really need the Cath Kidston Christmas cake tins?

Not so much, but I just know the Christmas baking will taste so much better next year in these!  And they make me happy this new year.  Wishing you all a very happy new year too, I hope 2013 is good to everyone

Sale shopping

I perused the internet for various sale items that were needed ( I don't intend on braving the shops for most of January!).  One of the things I want to do in January is clear out and decorate eldest son's bedroom whilst he is away travelling.  Although he won't care either way, I treated him (well, me!) to some gorgeous Orla Kiely bed linen.  I will photograph it once it is in his completely transformed bedroom (must take a before picture of said pit/bedroom).  What got me most excited was the boxes the bed linen came in.  What great storage.  As I oohed and aahed whilst filling them with various bits and pieces I was told by middle son to "get a life", but you understand don't you?! x

Lazy Days

I love the time between Christmas and New Year.  Rising later, going to bed later, the whole day shifts back.     It has been lovely this year,  as I am no longer working at the hospital, I haven't had to work over Christmas.  We have enjoyed gentle days of games, films and just spending time together.

We drove to Aldeburgh today for a walk and a bag of their award winning fish and chips

The shop usually has a huge queue stretching down the road, but was closed when this photo was taken.

The beach is very unspoilt with fishing boats coming in and fresh seafood being sold from huts on the beach

It's the first day since Christmas Eve that it hasn't rained, but it was very windy and blew a few cobwebs away.

Finally, one of my new designs, this little cutie found her way into a very sweet girl's stocking this year.  For the next ones I make I want to redesign the dress, I wasn't entirely happy with it, but she loved her!

Merry Christmas

I have only been blogging for a few weeks, but have already "met" so many lovely people.  I love to hear from you so thank you for your comments and thank you for all the lovely ideas, recipes and laughs that I have had from all your blogs.  I also wanted to say thank you to every single person who has liked/commented on/bought or commissioned my work.  I have had an amazing year and am so lucky to be able to do what I love every day and your support means so much to me so thank you very much.

I will take a break for the next few days but look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Have a lovely Christmas and can I wish you all the best for 2013

Harry's Christmas Message

If the Queen can do it so can I.

I wish you lots of this:

Plenty of this:

And this:

Lots of these:

But not too much of this:

Merry Christmas!

The show must go on

: The Sat Nav I ordered for middle son's new (to him - he just passed his test) car won't now be delivered until 5th January

: I have been sent the wrong CD that I ordered for my husband

: The tree lights went bang this morning and it's now looking a bit like Charlie Brown's tree

So I'm now off to brave town again and it's raining really hard.

Normal service will be resumed tomorrow!

My boys

I had a short message from my eldest son this morning.  He is travelling in India and won't be home for Christmas.  "Anything that arrives from Amazon with my name on it is to be opened on Christmas Day".  I'm touched that he gave us all some thought whilst on his travels and feel dreadful that we can't return the favour as he is on the move with no address to send things to.  It's very strange buying stocking fillers and presents for just 2 sons this year. I am missing Chris dreadfully, but so pleased that he is having this fantastic experience.

The only photo I can find of all 3 boys is at a wedding so they all look abnormally smart! From left to right George 19, Ben 17 and Chris 21 (and yes Chris is goosing his brother trying to make him pull a face!)

Last orders please

These two are off to Santa so that he can put them in two sweet girls stockings.  Not long now ...

Harry is dreaming of squeaky toys and hide bones (No I didn't put that cushion there for him, he arranged it himself!)

Christmas preparations were overshadowed by the news of the terrible tragedy in Connecticut on Friday.  Human nature at its best and worst.  My thoughts are with not just the families, but the whole community

Getting there

Almost all the orders I had for Christmas have been made.  I just have two more dolls to make which I will start today.

This weekend preparations for Christmas will begin in earnest.  Baking and freezing, cleaning and putting the tree up.  Also meeting up with friends and just having some quiet time to enjoy.  Have a lovely weekend.

Yep, Christmas shopping was as horrendous as I imagined it would be.  Note to self, next time do not go to book shop first and buy 5 hard back books that you then have to carry around for the next 3 hours.  I'd like to say I'm done but in reality I have barely scratched the surface.

I'm having a day at home today, trying to finish the last orders people have made for Christmas.  I love watching the birds taking the last of the pyracantha berries.  A you can see we have had heavy frosts for the last few days which hang around all day as the temperature doesn't get above freezing

I've brought a little bit of snow indoors, hanging up these fab snowflakes.  They remind me of the kind of decorations we had when I was little.  I bought these online from RE and love them!

Home time

Apart from walking Harry I have spent most of my time indoors this last week.  Watching Christmas films, writing cards, baking and sewing.  It's so cold out and so cosy in so what's a girl to do?  But today I am braving the shops and starting my Christmas shopping

My two latest doggies off to new homes to be loved.  There are some dogs that are for Christmas!
A piece of cake

I love reading blogs... I have had some wonderful suggestions for everything from books, through crafting ideas to recipes.  One of my favourites is A Spoonful of Sugar where they have lots of tutorials and some fab recipes.  I tried their flourless chocolate cake yesterday and while it was not anywhere as pretty as theirs, it tasted delicious!

It wouldn't win any beauty prizes would it?!  Can you also spot my new mug?  I visited our new John Lewis this morning and couldn't resist it.

I love giving as many hand made presents at Christmas as I can, unfortunately my 3 sons wouldn't appreciate that very much so it leaves mainly friends.  The notebooks below are for the lovely ladies that run a card making group every month that I attend, hope they like them

It's beginning to look (a little) like Christmas

Well that weekend went quickly didn't it?  I've started to add a few festive touches around the house

I love having lots of lights around the house, I especially like my Christmas trees

We won't bring our tree for the living room in until next weekend as it is a real one and I want it to still have some needles on it by Christmas day! but I love the tree we have in the boys den. It is made from silver birch bark and looks beautiful.  I took a photo before it was decorated so you could see the bark.

Have you decorated your house yet?

I was contacted to make 10 dolls for somebody in London who wanted said dolls for their Christmas tree.

The brief was evening dress, tiara and bags.  They are all fabric from a pattern in a Tilda book that I have. I enjoyed accessorising them with different styles of bags, jewellery and different hair styles. I hope she is pleased with them.  I have that slightly giddy end of term feeling when you know work is over and Christmas can be planned and looked forward to!

This weekend though I will be mostly catching up... shopping, cleaning house, tackling a huge pile of washing and ironing and spending time with my family.  Hope you have a good weekend.

Thursday, 6 December 2012

A big bundle of loveliness arrived in the post.  One of the best things about making things for me is having new fabric.  I look at it (even stroke it a little!) and make plans with what I'm going to do with it.  I love fabric.

The photo really doesn't do them justice - 40 fat quarters of co-ordinating red, pink, blue, natural and green. It's vintage modern Bonnie and Camille  by Moda.  Oh, the plans I have...

Here's a very small part of the order I was talking about yesterday.  Will show the rest tomorrow.  Back to the sewing machine!

Wednesday, 5 December 2012

We have had a light snowfall this morning, Harry enjoyed his morning walk, but as I walked round I was getting stressed about an order I have to finish for Friday.  As I walked, watching the wildlife, I realised how very lucky I am.  Two weeks ago I was working in a very busy department in a hospital, leaving the house in the dark (and it would have been no fun in the snow this morning).  Now here I am working from home, enjoying what I do and I am happy.  Stress over, back to the sewing machine.  Hope to show you what the order is tomorrow.

I love retro mama and have bought several patterns from her.  The felt I have bought from her is the best quality I have ever had too.  One of my favourite patterns is Milo and Moxie and dachshunds have been very popular this year.  In the words of Blue Peter, here's one I made earlier

Just look at her eyelashes!

She is so simple to make, as she is two legged there are only four pattern pieces (I made it more difficult by giving her a coat), but for all dog lovers she is an easy make

The shorter days find me trying to make the house more cosy and I always fill the house with red at this time of year

A few Christmas items have found their way in this weekend

Some new magazines for when I finally have time to sit and read!

Tomato and pesto tart from Rose Elliot's 30 minute vegetarian book

And a new doll that I made, hoping to find a little girl who will love her...
